IP cameras are essentially cameras that transfers video feed using digital data packets instead of analog signal. The cameras are connected to a network instead of a computer or standalone recorder. IP cameras are not limited to distance therefore centralized monitoring is possible. The are also wireless IP cameras which eliminates the cost of wiring. The only drawback of IP cameras is the potential of having security breach. This is especially applied to wireless IP cameras where the security protocols are still weak which can compromise a network. Until the security protocols get stronger, analog cameras will still be in use.
