When you have following problems, it might because insufficient network bandwidth
- Can NOT view images
- Ghost images or mosaic images
- Image stops from time to time
The root cause of this problem is the video frames dropped out because insufficient network bandwidth. When the video frames are dropped, it wmight cause the decoding of MPEG-4 video fail and cause ghost images and mosaic images. When the drop-out of video frames is serious, the video stream will be stopped or can NOT start at all.
Please refer to Chapter 1 for solutions.
Chapter. 1. How to setup devices for low insufficient network bandwidth?
We divide the solution by two dimensions 1. the audio 2. the bandwidth available (for each camera channel).
Please refer to the table below for solutions
1-1 Solutoin A.
1. “Disable the audio” or “Increase the bandwidth to 192 Kbps and more”
Because audio banwdith for ACTi devices is 140Kbits per second, there’s no way to receive both video and audio under 128Kbits banwdith.
2. If you disable to audio, please go to Solution C.
3. If you increase the bandwidth to 192Kbits ore more, please go to Solution B.
1-2 Solutoin B.
1. Calculate the available video bandwidth.
Available video bandwidth = Available banwdith – 140Kbps
Example: If the available banwdith for this camera is 512Kbps, the available video bandwidth = 512Kbps – 140 Kbps
= 372 Kbps.
2. Set the device according to the Video Setting Table at 1-4
1-3 Solutoin C.
1. Make sure the audio is disabled. Please refer to 1-5 for detail.
2. Set the device according to the Video Setting Table at 1-4
1-4 Appendix. Recommended Video Setting on ACTi
Login the video server or IP camera and configure the setting according to the picture and Video setting table below
- Resoluion
- Bit rate
- Frame rate mode
- Frame rate
Be sure to Click “Apply” button and “Save and Reboot” the camera after.
* Recommended bit rate setting on ACTi device (Available bandwidth / 1.3 (MPEG-4 variation)
** Recommended bit rate setting on ACTi device Due to the characteristic of ACTi Variable frame rate
1-5 Appendix- How to disable the audio
Login the video server or IP camera and disable the audio as below. Click “Apply” button and “Save and Reboot” the camera after.
1-6 Appendix- How to evaluate your available bandwidth
To make sure the actually bandwidth in your environment, you can use the “DU Meter” refer to the http://www.acti.com/support/Package/TS-00017.pdf
